Quick answers
Curtain and blind questions, answered plainly
What is curtain and blind installation?
Fitting window coverings and the hardware that holds them — rods, tracks or brackets — while allowing for the window size, mounting surface, clearance and how the covering opens.
Can curtains be installed on the ceiling?
Yes, when the track or rod is designed for it and the ceiling — concrete or gypsum — can take the fixings and the curtain's weight.
Is inside or outside mounting better?
Neither is better everywhere. It depends on the recess, the clearance, the covering, the look you want and how the window opens.
What affects installation cost?
The number and size of windows, the covering, the mounting method and hardware, access, ceiling or wall conditions and how complex the job is.
Can existing curtain hardware be reused?
Sometimes — if it's in good condition, the right size and position, and suits the new covering's weight and design.
Do blackout curtains block all light?
Blackout material blocks most light through the fabric, but light can still get in around the edges. The room result depends on gaps, mounting and the system.
Covering selector
What are you installing?
Curtains
Standard curtains
The hardware position and height decide how the curtain hangs and where it stacks when open.
Curtain or blind?
Curtains vs blinds
Neither is better everywhere — many homes use both, even in the same room.

Mounting position
Should it sit inside or outside the window?
Inside mount: Fitted within the window recess. A neat, built-in look when the recess is deep enough and handles don't get in the way.
Inside mount
Can work well for
- Clean, recessed appearance
- Leaves the surrounding wall clear
- Suits deep recesses
Consider
- Recess depth
- Window handles
- How the window opens
- Obstructions in the recess
- Light gaps at the edges
Outside mount
Can work well for
- Covers more of the window
- Works with shallow recesses
- Can reduce edge light for blackout
Consider
- Wall space around the window
- Nearby furniture
- Switches and sockets
- Doors
- Ceiling height
- Trim and cornices
Wall mount
Depends on the wall construction, window position, curtain height, nearby furniture and how windows and doors open.
Ceiling mount
Depends on the ceiling construction (concrete or gypsum), the fixing area available, the curtain drop and weight, and the track design. We fix ceiling tracks into both.
Window type
What kind of window do you have?
Standard window
Consider
- Inside or outside mount
- Handle position
- Sill depth
- Stack-back either side
Measurements
Getting the measurements right
Measuring only the glass is a common mistake. What matters depends on the product and how it’s mounted — and there’s no single rule that works for every blind or curtain. We can measure for you before anything is ordered.
- Window width
- Window height
- Recess width
- Recess height and depth
- Wall space either side
- Ceiling height
- Handle position
- Sill projection
- Curtain stack-back space
- Furniture clearance

Hardware
Curtain rod or curtain track?
- Curtain weight
- Opening style
- Room design
- Ceiling or wall
- Look you want
- Number of layers
Rod
- Decorative, visible hardware
- Common in bedrooms and living rooms
- Wall mounted with brackets
- Many finishes and finials
Track
- Minimal, discreet profile
- Suits modern, clean interiors
- Wall or ceiling mounted
- Good for long spans, bays and layers
Large windows & heavy curtains need more planning
Lined blackout curtains across a wide villa window can be heavy. We use hardware rated for the load, enough support points and fixings that suit the wall or ceiling — not improvised anchors.
- Curtain weight
- Hardware capacity
- Mounting surface
- Number of brackets / support points
- Opening span
- Stacking area
- Ceiling or wall condition
- Access
- Alignment
Blackout
Planning a blackout curtain or blind?
There’s a difference between blackout material — fabric that blocks light passing through it — and a blackout result in the room. Light still leaks around the top and sides unless the installation is planned for it.
- Covering type
- Mounting position
- Window size
- Side gaps
- Top gaps
- Edge light leakage
- Fabric / system design
We won’t promise “100% blackout” — we’ll tell you how close a given setup is likely to get.
How much light do you want to control?
Maximum light reductionBlackout fabric, mounted outside the recess with overlap or on a ceiling track, plus side returns where possible. Some edge light may remain.
Privacy & window coverings
Sheer curtains give privacy by day but become see-through at night when the lights are on inside. Street-facing and ground-floor rooms usually need a heavier layer or a blind as well. No covering guarantees privacy in every lighting condition.
- Bedroom privacy
- Bathroom privacy
- Street-facing windows
- Ground-floor windows
- Office meeting rooms
- Daytime vs night-time
- Sheer vs blackout
- Slat angle on Venetian blinds

Clearance
The finished look depends on more than the curtain
There’s no single right curtain length — it depends on the room, the window and what’s around it:
- Curtain length
- Floor clearance
- Sill clearance
- Stack-back when open
- Furniture
- AC units
- Doors
- Window handles
- Walking paths
What’s near your window?
Tick everything that applies.
- Window handle: May stop an inside-mount blind dropping fully — check the depth or mount outside.
Large openings
Curtains for sliding doors & large openings
The curtain has to clear the door when it’s open — so the track usually extends past the opening and the fabric stacks on the side the door doesn’t slide to.
- Which way the door opens
- Where the curtain stacks
- Track or rod span
- Door handles
- Floor clearance
- Furniture
- Traffic flow
Think about how the blind will be used
- Manual. Pull the curtain by hand or with a wand on a track.
- Chain or cord. Common on roller and Venetian blinds; we fit the supplied safety devices to keep loops out of reach.
- Wand. Tilt or traverse with a rigid wand — no hanging loops.
- Motorised. A motor raises the blind or draws the curtain, by switch or remote.
- Smart control. App, schedule or voice control, where the system is compatible.
In children’s rooms, keep cords and chains out of reach — and never remove or modify the safety devices supplied with a blind.
Considering motorised or smart blinds?
We supply and install motorised blinds and curtain tracks with remote or smart control. Before choosing, we check:
- Motor and product compatibility
- Power supply or battery
- Control method
- Remote control
- Smart-home compatibility
- Motor position
- Access for maintenance
Mains-powered motors may need a nearby power point; we’ll tell you if electrical work is needed.

Can you install curtain rods?
Yes. We position the brackets for the curtain's weight and width and fix them to suit the wall.
Can you install curtain tracks?
Yes — single, double and heavy-duty tracks, wall or ceiling mounted, including bent tracks for bays.
Can curtains be ceiling-mounted?
Yes, when the track suits it and the ceiling can take the fixings. We install ceiling tracks into concrete and gypsum ceilings.
Can you install roller blinds?
Yes, inside or outside the recess depending on depth, handles and the look you want.
Can you install blackout blinds or curtains?
Yes. We'll suggest a mounting position that reduces edge light, but some light may still enter around the edges.
Can you install blinds on large windows?
Yes. Very wide windows may be better split into two or more blinds; we'll advise.
Can you install curtains for sliding doors?
Yes. We plan the track or rod so the curtain stacks clear of the door and handles.
Can existing curtain rods or tracks be reused?
Sometimes. It depends on their condition, size, position and whether they suit the new covering's weight.
Do you install customer-supplied curtains and blinds?
Yes. Send photos or product details and we'll check the hardware and fit.
Can I send window photos before booking?
Yes — a photo of the full window, the wall or ceiling around it, the handles and any existing hardware helps us plan.
Do you provide measurements?
Yes. We can visit to measure, and we can supply curtains and blinds made to those measurements.
How long does curtain or blind installation take?
It depends on the number of windows, the hardware, the ceiling or wall and access. We'll give you an idea when we quote.
Can you install curtains in high-ceiling rooms?
Yes, including floor-to-ceiling and double-height windows, with suitable access equipment.
Can you install multiple curtains or blinds throughout a home?
Yes. List the rooms and windows in the builder above or send photos and we'll plan it together.
Do you install motorized blinds?
Yes — motorised blinds and curtain tracks with remote or smart control, where the system and power supply are suitable.
